Aluminium
Whilst Proseam panels can be offered in most metals, the standard commercial offering is in aluminium.
Aluminium roofs have been installed across the world for over 100 years. The metal’s strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance and good formability make it the perfect choice for roof panels.
The dome roof of the San Gioacchino church in Rome was clad with aluminium in 1898 and continues to perform well. (view image in gallery).
Proseam is produced in 3000 series aluminium alloy in both plain mill and painted finishes. PVDF (poly vinyl di-fluoride) coated aluminium is the preferred option for Proseam, particularly where the integrated solar module is to be fitted. Bradclad source pre-painted aluminium coil from leading international suppliers including Arconic and Euramax.
Unlike steel, aluminium does not need to be painted to protect it. The coating allows us to offer our clients a range of colours but the mill finish metal is more than capable of withstanding decades of weathering. Certainly the dome of San Gioacchino didn’t receive any additional protective coating !

The Rio Tinto Alcan aluminium smelter at Kitimat in the north of British Columbia has Bradclad Prozip panels on the roof, manufactured in mill finish aluminium.

Stainless steel
Many of us have a stainless steel sink in our kitchen. But how many would consider a stainless steel roof on our building ?
In fact, in comparison with most other metals, stainless steel offers the ultimate in roofing material.
Stainless steel is steel containing a minimum of 10% of chromium along with other alloying materials. Stainless steel will not rust. One of the earliest applications in cladding was on top of the Chrysler Building in New York, built in 1929. At almost 80 years old the durability of the cladding is a tribute to the properties of stainless steel.
The metal has ‘green’ credentials too. It is fully recyclable and because it has no corrosion products forming on its surface there is no toxic run-off, making rainwater simple to harvest and re-use.
Newly produced stainless steel is bright and shiny and is unlikely to satisfy most local planning authorities if it were chosen for a residential roof in the suburbs.
Proseam can be offered in a variety of stainless steel finishes. ‘Ugitop’ from Aperam is a matt finish stainless. It has no ‘tinning’ or added layer, but a slightly textured rolled finish which produces an attractive matt appearance.

Coated steel
Proseam is also available in a choice of colour coated steels, usually in “Nailstrip” format.
